Trail Of Madrones

Westlake, Austin, TX

Phtotographed by Joshua Wiseman

This exciting project in Austin, TX addresses the clients need for a use-able backyard space that compliments the rest of the property through the use of materials and plantings. The use of native grasses and succulents brings color variety and volume that defines the space.

This home sits on a steep hill, rendering the backyard previously un-usable. We created a terraced platform and stairs that connect to the deck, and are surrounded by Jasmine, Agave’s, and ground covers that create a courtyard of native plants for the clients enjoyment.

The front of the property features a succulent garden within a custom-built steel bench, surrounded by terraced concrete planters. Spaces of exploration and play are programmed into the design that allow for users to explore and experience native flora.
