About Us:

As brothers, Matt & Josh’s design & construction journey started at a young age. Their Father, Bob Snyder, started his very own landscape company in Northern California when he was sixteen years old. He would take them to work and let them experience all facets of the job, from laying out plants, getting on a tractor to set grades, and even attempting a little design creativity. Bob ended up in Sacramento after being recognized for his design eye & building techniques. Although he never completed a qualifying architecture degree, Bob became an incredibly sought after landscape designer & builder, while building an in-house team of contractors. He received very high recognition for his projects in California, Oregon, and Texas by creating landscapes based on construction experience, ecological comprehension, and design ingenuity

Matt and Josh landed in Bend, Oregon, when their Dad was asked to relocate by a business partner in California. With the construction boom happening in Oregon in 1998, an opportunity presented itself to perfect a skill-set and design capabilities together. For all of them, it was an incredible opportunity to work with new material & use their love of nature to inspire an overall look.

As teenagers, Matt and Josh were given design plans and learned to execute by their trusting father. With an experienced team behind them, they learned quickly how to read and organize a project to the process of completion with a level of excellence that was expected. Eventually Bob gave the boys more opportunity to create on their own. This enabled Matt to draw plans with new & unconventional  ideas knowing that Josh could execute them professionally. After many years of college education for both Matt & Josh, the need to get home & step in for the growing family business was more important to uphold. With very hungry clientele, the need for a larger and more efficient business model was growing very quickly. For the brothers, the return to the business rekindled the natural fulfillment that they received by transforming spaces and making new and lasting client relationships along the way.

When faced with a downturn in the construction industry in Oregon, the Snyder family turned their gaze towards The Lone Star State. After receiving inquiries about available equipment and seeing the strength of Central Texas during a hard time, the family recognized that the Austin area had a better future and infrastructure for growth in their practicing field. After being awarded their first project in Spanish Oaks in 2010, Matt and Josh showcased their talents and capabilities as an in-house landscape design group.

As a family business, we strive for honesty and clarity. We first understand our client’s vision and needs for their, not to present our own. We value timeliness, direct communication and prototypes over presentations, as well as the occasional face-to-face meeting over a drink or a meal.

What distinguishes MJSL over other landscape architectural design firms is we operate as a design + build team. Our projects are created by our designers, with the thought of implementation and construction in mind, while collaborating with our builders and contractors in order to provide a quick and exciting process. The result is a seamless construction process from a passionate attention to detail.

You have discovered a truly unique company capable of providing you with an unparalleled outdoor living experience. Because we provide top quality landscape design and outdoor living architectural design AND we have everything in-house that we need to build the finished product to our very high standards, you get an unparalleled outdoor experience without having to manage sub-contractors in the process. We manage the whole process which allows us to communicate with each member in each stage of the process so that the work is done right the first time by skilled people who've been carefully selected to build our designs. That provides you an easier process and an extraordinary value. At the end of the day, there is nothing more expensive than having to rebuild something the way it should have been done the first time.
